Road from Erebus,The (2002) (TV)

"Brenda Price

is a very attractive woman smokes in a few scenes throughout the film. Nice inhales and excellent exhales, looks IRL to me. She also bears a strong resemblance to Jennifer Lopez so if you've always wanted to see Jennifer Lopez smoke this good, this is as close as your going to get."
"She smokes Marlboro Lights in five scenes, each beginning with a light-up. And I say she looks like Tia Carrera."

Erebus Paved With Much Good Intent
A Review by Keith Uhlich

The Road From Erebus should most be remembered for the Dietrich/Von Sternberg-like collaboration between writer/director Sporn and his lead actress Brenda Price, a stunning, talented, whip-smart beauty. Throughout the film Sporn literally illustrates his, and our, healthy cinematic obsession through the character of Barry, who narrates visual snippets of a novel-in-progress in which Price's character Helen is the central object of desire. These narrative tangents enhance Erebus' unhinged mood and put one in mind of the surrealist films of Luis Buᵥ?, where a man's dream vision of a woman and her reality are often muddled and seemingly at odds. Done wrong, such a conceit might reek of misogyny, but Price brings to this and her various other roles a humor, pathos, and assertive sexuality, which ably trounce that tried-and-true accusation. She's a real find.
For a film concerned with the psychological depths of its characters, one wouldn't expect the visual schema to look so, well, flat. This is very disappointing particularly in regards to Price's performance, which is so good at relating a mind unbalanced it cries out for the precise cinematic juxtaposition of light and shadow. One of the locations in particular, a spacious two-room art gallery where several crucial actions take place, offers a variety of lighting choices and camera placements to this effect. Most unfortunate they are underutilized.

I never heard of Brenda Price before stumbling on "The Road to Erebus" on HBO in the middle of the night. She handled a challenging triple role, and convincingly played 3 characters. Add to that her attributes of youth and exceptional beauty and I forsee a major career for her!

Summary: Cant turn it off

Happened upon this early one morning and was not able to turn it off it keeps you guessing what is going to happen and more often then not your wrong. Trying to figure out what is reality and what is not is not as easy as it seems with these characters, cast and crew did a wonderful job here.

Caught this on tape through a friend. Well worth a look, especially for the lead performance of Brenda Price who traverses three distinct roles with pathos, humor, and aplomb. Kudos to writer/director David Sporn for a good time overall.
